FAQs
When do you expect the first wind farm to start producing?
The current estimate is 2028 upon completion of the construction phase.
Will the plants benefit from economic incentives?
Yes. After achieving environmental permitting, the individual projects intend to participate in the FER 2 auctions, which is the Italian plan for Contract for Differences supporting Floating Offshore Wind.
What are the renewable installed capacity targets for Divento?
Divento’s goal is 3 GW of floating wind installed by 2031. Partner goals are available directly on their respective websites.
How will you address the need to increase electric transmission capacity to accommodate Divento’s offshore wind projects
Adaptation of the grid to accommodate all new renewable capacity in Italy is the responsibility of Terna, the grid operator. We are fully cooperating with them in alignment with current regulations and permitting processes.
How many and what kind of jobs will the projects create? What will be the economic impact?
Maximizing benefits to Italy and Italians is a core focus of Divento. The project portfolio will positively impact employment and the economy locally, regionally, and nationally. While it is still too early to provide specific estimates, the impact will be substantial.
What is the total investment planned for these wind farms?
The infrastructure investment will be substantial, with details to be available nearer the time of project construction.
What will be the environmental impact of the Divento offshore wind portfolio?
The projects’ permitting is managed by responsible government authorities, and the legislated permitting process is stringent in minimizing environmental impact. The portfolio includes the first floating wind farm in Italy to receive a positive EIA from the authorities. Environmental impact is the top priority of the projects and the partners and Divento will be coordinating and abiding by all rules and regulations as outlined by Italian authorities to ensure responsible development and construction of these projects.
What is floating offshore wind and why is it being used for Divento’s offshore wind portfolio?
The Divento portfolio includes the first commercial-scale floating wind farm in the world. Floating technology enables turbines to be located in areas with the greatest offshore wind energy resources, where water depths exceed the limitations of conventional fixed-bottom turbines. There is more information in the Project section of the website here.
How much energy will be produced?
The partnership’s offshore wind portfolio in Italy, totalling almost 3 GW with a yearly production of around 8 TWh of renewable energy, will be enough to satisfy the electricity consumption of around 3 million households, contributing to the decarbonization objectives of the 2030 National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.
